romney did -- governor romney was terrific last night. he did all the things he has to do to get back in this race, and i am also mystified at the president's strategy. you know, chris, i'm a good sports fan. in fact, i even do sports tv and i write -- >> i know you do. >> and there's a great sports analogy. when you play the perfect defense when you have a lead, when you try to sit on the ball in basketball when you have got a lead, when you play conservative, what often happens is you lose the lead. and i can't for the life of me believe that that's what they did, but that's the only explanation. they told the president, don't be confrontational. they told the president, be above it all, act presidential. but the one thing that gets me when i was running for re-election as mayor and when i was running for re-election as governor and even d.a., i had a passion for what we'd accomplished. i had a passion to explain where we didn't ak plir something, why we didn't, what the road blocks were, and he could have done that without being aggres

just yesterday romney told the denver post, scene of the new debate tomorrow night, that he wouldn't revoke the visas, the new ones, that the two-year visas, president obama has granted to some young illegal immigrants. in june he said the people who have received the special visa that the president has put in place should expect that the visa would continue to be valid. i'm not going to take something that they've purchased. before those visas expired, we will have the full immigration reform plan i have proposed. compare that to what we heard in the primary campaign about young people here illegally. let's watch that. >> when i was governor i took the action of 'em powering our state police to enforce immigration laws. when you were governor, you said i don't want to build a fence. you put in place a magnet to draw illegals into the state which was giving $10,000 in of tuition credit to illegals that come into this country. >> even the lingo he's using, the derogatories, illegals, as if they're not people first. we m is the president for the center for american progress near rattan

romney, governor romney, is able to say something like, well, all pre-existing conditions will be covered and then have his guy go out later that night and tell a few people who read the newspapers, oh, it doesn't really cover you unless you're already covered which doesn't mean anything. your thoughts, ron. will television deceive? >> yes, television does deceive. candidates deceive. it's one of the most disturbing aspects of this campaign, particularly if romney were to win. it would set a standard of dishonesty for all campaigns going forward that would be really hard to meet. going into the next debate, i have been listening to your discussions thus far today, and i agree with you, you don't want obama to relitigate the last debate and i agree he has to attack romney the man. it's not about rearguing the medicare issue as such. it's about revealing the fact that romney has been all over the map on various issues, will say anything on a given day to get through the day, and he has to be unmasked that way. >> well, that's what i would do, michelle. the facts are that romney believes bas
